Born and raised in Gaston, North Carolina, Dr. Jimmy Arthur Atkins grew up as one of ten children in a lively, loving household. Atkins was called into ministry at a young age and now serves as the visionary leader of True Worship, Under his guidance, the church continues to thrive, transforming lives, building community, and advancing the Kingdom of God through innovative hybrid ministries.
A proud graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, the University of Delaware, and Regent University, where he completed his doctoral studies, Pastor Atkins also holds a Master of Arts in Theology from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. He is a distinguished Public Theology Fellow at Wesley Theological Seminary and a Fellow in the Higher Education Leadership Foundation.
A prolific author, Pastor Atkins has published several articles and penned two books, Leading Strategic Community Change, and Leadership Styles Uncovered. His latest work, honoring Civil Rights leader John Lewis, was featured in the encyclopedia "African American Activism and Political Empowerment." Despite his academic accolades, Pastor Atkins cherishes the life lessons imparted by his late parents, Olivia and George Atkins, Sr., and the unwavering support from his siblings, church, extended family, and community. These experiences continue to shape his ministry and inspire his leadership.
A proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., where he serves as Chaplain, Pastor Atkins also lends his spiritual guidance as Chaplain for the Greater Raleigh National Panhellenic Council, representing all D9 Organizations. He shares a blessed marriage of 21 years with his wife, Lady Kecia, and together they are raising two wonderful sons, James, a rising 11th grader, and George, a rising 9th grader.
Guided by his favorite scripture, 2 Timothy 2:2, “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also,” Pastor Atkins remains dedicated to fostering spiritual growth and empowerment in every aspect of his ministry and life.
